Creating and collaborating
My name is Ben Cena. I've always enjoyed movies and comic books. After graduating from Bishop Watterson High School, I spent four years studying illustration at Columbus College of Art and Design, where I received a bachelor's in fine arts.
When I was 22, I started a web series called Retro Podcast and wrote my first screenplay, Orlando Monster; the script was nominated for the Chicago Film Awards Festival and first placed in the Cooper Awards. At age 23, directed and edited a short documentary titled The Joy of Teamwork that won two awards in two international film festivals. At age 24, I wrote and illustrated my first comic book, Night at the North Pole.
I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and InDesign. I am also skilled in creating PowerPoint presentations, screenwriting, and traditional illustrations.
I have been a freelance designer for companies involving Slapstik Comedy Entertainment, Left of Str8 Podcast, and mine of course Retro Podcast; we have interviewed guests such as Greg Sestero from The Room (2003), Corbin Bernsen from L.A. Law (1986 - 1994), singer Chloe Caroline, Robert Torti from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999), Mike Dopud from Violent Night (2022), Scott Schwartz from A Christmas Story (1983), Kate Isitt from the BBC series Coupling (2000 - 2004), and Kevin McNally from the Pirates of the Caribbean saga (2003 - 2017).
I am passionate about meeting talented people, creating comic books, and screenwriting.
